ASUU Strike: President Buhari Sends Message To ASUU

Recall that the Academic staff union of universities ASUU has embarked on strike since the month of March due to the fact that the federal government has refused to pay some members of the union who failed to enroll into the federal government's IPPIS as payment system, as the union demands for new payment system.

However, the Federal government has held so many meetings with ASUU but no rigid agreement has been reached yet as the union continues strike.

Following the ongoing ASUU strike, President Mohammadu Buhari has sent message to the union assuring that the federal government would meet all agreements with unions in the educational sector.

President Mohammadu Buhari made this announcement while expressing concern over the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday, 17th of November, 2020.

Buhari appealed to the lecturers to return to their duty posts. He urged all unions in the educational sector to embrace dialogue rather than confrontation.

According to statement released by Buhari's representative, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, The Executive Secretary Of National University Commission (NUC) in the 2020 convocation and 72 funding day celebration of the University of Ibadan on Tuesday, he said;

“I wish to assure all stakeholders, in the education sector, that the federal government will continue to meet its obligations and agreements with all unions.

“it's my earnest desire that all unions should shed the toga of confrontation and embrace dialogue, for the sake of our children and the development of our educational system,” he said.
